– St. Patrick was a Christian missionary who converted pagans to Christianity during the 5th century AD. St. Patrick’s Day was first celebrated in the US in the city of Boston, Massachusetts in 1737 because of the great Irish population that entered into the US during this time. It is typically celebrated on March 17th during Holy week. Why do people where green on St. Patrick’s Day? They say that Irish people traditionally wore green to encourage crops to grow, and even today when we think of green we think of new life and new growth. In present day, most Americans have lost touch with the real reasons that Irish people celebrate St. Patrick’s Day or who St. Patrick was. For Americans, St. Patrick’s Day has turned into a day to celebrate Irish American Pride, a time to gather with friends and family, have a few beers, and have fun! It is said to be good luck kissing an Irish person so kiss me I’m Irish! –
